VirtualBox Windows XP has no local network

I m trying to set up a Windows XP VirtualBox with Oracle s VirtualBox yet it seems I don t have drivers. In the guest Windows XP, the network section is empty, typing ipconfig in command prompt does nothing. Apparently my install doesn t have device manager either, so so much for that. I just want it so that I can connect the other bloody virtual machines to it, yet I haven t got the slightest clue as to what is going on.

I have it on host-only adapter, but I believe the problem is in the guest OS, as it doesn t have a local connection section and the networking section is blank.

Network Drivers where.

by Drix 22. Jan 2011,

Hello I ve been using Virtual PC for some time now and I decided to give Virtualbox a try.

And I have some troubles with it

been googling for some hours

Its impossible to find the proper network drivers.

I m using Win7prof as host and Winserver 2008 r2 as guest

I got a WDSsrv and a AD dns dhcp on another one

and when I m going to deploy Win7 on a Guest

but it says I need to deploy the network drivers for it to work in the wdsserver

How do I get the network drivers for Virtualbox.

I m starting to get really frustrated

Drix

Re: Network Drivers where.

Thanks for the quick answer but

Can only use PCnet adapter when using internal network

With the other Intel 1000 ones

I only recieve errors

Fatal: Could not read from the boot medium. System Halted.

Well aint Internal network like Local only in virtual PC.

The Guest must be able to retrieve ip from dhcp and mount from WDS server

its the latest 4.0.2.6 or smt

I dont got any Intel e1000 adapter :S

VM settings network Adapter x expand Advanced. He, what do you have there. You can choose what NIC type to use in the VM. If you do NOT have the Intel adapter, you re using a very ancient version. Since you say you have 4.0.2, you must be blind.

How did you create the vm. If you choose Server 2008 x64 it installs Intel Pro/1000 by default and R2 has the drivers out of the box. And it certainly works on the internal network and yes, internal is pretty much the same as Local Only in VPC.

But It still requires drivers

No Intel 1000E

Those interfaces are marked as e1000 in the driver.

As for the boot with the e1000 NIC, are you sure that your PXE file has the driver for it as well. If you don t include it, you won t get anything because the interface won t work. I fail to see where VB is involved in this, as you would get the same result with bare metal systems that have an e1000 interface. And make sure you have the ExtPack installed, else PXE boot won t work at all with the e1000 interfaces.

That is the problem I cant locate the driver in the package so I cant deploy it in the WDS server but anyway

When I use PCnet on Client I ll get driver errors check pic

And If I use intel 1000 on Client I wont even come this far then I only get check pic

Which is why you need to learn how to create proper PXE images or at least install the ExtPack to be able to PXE with e1000 interfaces. What you are doing here is more specialized to WDS and you should asked on a MS forum that discusses that software. We don t discuss it here, as it is not in the scope of this forum. If we would do so, this forum will become one giant mess without any structure.
